โ† back to control center  โ€บ  Recall Lookup

๐Ÿ” Free Recall Lookup

Type your VIN. Get every open recall on your vehicle. Most recalls can be fixed FREE at your local dealer โ€” but most people never know they exist. We use NHTSA's free database. No signup, no email, no tracking.

VIN is on your registration, insurance card, or the bottom-left corner of your windshield.

๐Ÿ›ก What's a recall?

A safety recall is when the manufacturer (Ford, Toyota, etc.) decides a defect on your specific vehicle needs to be fixed. The fix is FREE at your dealer โ€” they're required by law to do it at no cost. But you have to know it exists.

Common recall topics: airbags (Takata), fuel pumps, ignition switches, transmission control modules, fire risks, steering components.

๐Ÿ“ž Got an open recall โ€” now what?

  1. Write down the NHTSA campaign number (e.g., 22V-340)
  2. Call your local dealer's SERVICE department (not sales)
  3. Say: "I have an open recall, campaign [number], on my [year/make/model]. Can you schedule the recall fix?"
  4. They'll need your VIN to confirm and order parts
  5. Drop off your car, pick it up, drive away
  6. You pay $0.

If the dealer tries to upsell you on other work while doing the recall, you can decline โ€” the recall fix itself is free.

๐Ÿค” What if my dealer is closed or won't help?

Call NHTSA directly at 1-888-327-4236, or file a complaint at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Federal law is on your side. We can also help you document and pursue it โ€” call Deb at 706-900-9696.

๐Ÿ“Œ For Mike + Deb: this page is pure goodwill marketing. People who use it remember the free thing we gave them. When their transmission goes, they call MDC. NHTSA's vPIC API is FREE and well-documented โ€” wiring this to real data is a 30-minute job. Until then, the demo lookup below shows what it'll look like.
